The North Wind and the Sun

scroll gently to begin ↓

The North Wind and the Sun both lived high in the big, wide sky. One day, they began to argue. 'I am stronger!' said the Wind. 'No, I am stronger!' said the Sun.

Far below, a traveller walked along a winding road. He wore a thick, cozy cloak. 'Whoever can take off his cloak wins!' said the Wind.

The North Wind went first. He puffed up his cheeks and blew with all his might. Whoooosh!

The traveller felt the cold air bite at him. He grabbed his cloak and pulled it tight. He wrapped it close and kept on walking.

The Wind blew and blew, but the cloak stayed on. At last, the tired Wind stopped. It was the Sun's turn.

The Sun smiled, and shone a little warmer. The traveller lifted his face to the sky.

The Sun smiled, and shone a little warmer. The traveller reached up and undid the clasp on his cloak.

Then the Sun shone with all his golden light. The traveller felt warm and cozy, too warm for his thick cloak. He smiled and slipped it right off.

The Sun had won! 'Well done,' said the Wind with a smile. The whole sky glowed gold and bright.

The traveller walked on, feeling happy and light. The sky was warm and blue all around him.

That evening, the traveller rested on a quiet hilltop. Being gentle and kind is stronger than being loud and rough.
