Snowdrop and the Mountain Cottage
scroll gently to begin ↓
Snowdrop lived in a snowy palace with her proud stepmother. Each morning, the queen asked her mirror, “Who is fairest?” “Queen,” it answered, “you are fairest here.”
As Snowdrop grew, her kindness shone through every palace room. One morning, the mirror answered, “Snowdrop is fairest now.” The queen’s jealous face tightened.
Because of that answer, the queen sent a servant away with Snowdrop. In the forest, he whispered, "Run, child, and stay hidden. I will tell the queen you are far away."
Snowdrop hurried through the trees until evening. At last, she found a tiny cottage beside the mountains. “Step by step, I will be brave,” she whispered.
Inside the cottage stood seven little beds. Snowdrop tried each one until the seventh felt just right. Soon, the dwarfs returned and lifted their lamps around her.
At sunrise, Snowdrop told the dwarfs why she had fled. They offered safety, but warned, “Never open the door or window alone.” “Safe together, home together,” everyone said.
Meanwhile, the mirror told the queen where Snowdrop lived. The queen disguised herself and carried a rosy enchanted apple. At the cottage window, she held it up invitingly.
Despite the warning, Snowdrop accepted one shining apple slice. After one bite, she sank into a deep enchanted sleep.
That evening, the dwarfs understood the apple’s spell. They placed Snowdrop gently in a glass bed among flowers. “Safe together, home together,” they promised.
A traveling prince heard about the sleeping girl and came to help. As he helped lift the bed, the apple piece slipped free. Snowdrop opened her eyes, and everyone cheered.
Together, Snowdrop and her friends returned to the palace. When the queen saw Snowdrop alive, motherly love finally melted her jealousy. “I am sorry,” she wept, and Snowdrop hugged her gently.
That evening, the queen welcomed everyone to a glowing palace feast. Snowdrop, the prince, and the seven dwarfs shared it joyfully.
That night, Snowdrop rested beneath a silver moon. Good friends bring us safely home.
