Pip and the Shadow

Pip the dog found a juicy piece of meat. He wagged his tail and trotted happily down the sunny path.
He came to a wooden bridge over a bubbling stream. The planks went tap, tap, tap under his paws.
Pip stopped and looked down into the shiny water. A dog looked back from the stream. Pip thought it had a much bigger piece of meat!
He opened his mouth wide to grab it. Splash! His own meat fell down into the cold stream.
The shimmery shape rippled and was gone. There was no other dog. It had only been Pip's reflection.
Pip sat down on the bridge and sighed. He had dropped his meat for nothing at all.
Pip got up slowly and walked back toward home. The planks went tap, tap, tap under his paws.
At home, his bowl was waiting, full of yummy dinner. Pip ate every bite and felt much better.
Pip curled up in his soft, cozy bed with a happy sigh. Sometimes, what you have is just enough.
